A grand adventure

I just bought this book for the second time. The first time was about 16 years ago when my children were in grade school; I purchased it at a school book fair. It was our custom for me to read to my son and daughter in bed before going to sleep. This book was so much fun and so funny and so exciting, I could not put it down and my children did not want me to stop reading until it was done. It was such a fun book that my children's third and fourth grade teachers allowed me to read the book aloud to the whole class, who listened so intently you could hear a pin drop, unless, of course, they were laughing or appropriately responding to the story. I donated my first copy to the elementary school for others to enjoy as we had. Wouldn't it be great fun to be transported in a time machine? By again purchasing this book to read to my grandchildren, I have been. What a ride!

Max and Me and the Time Machine

ISBN 0064402223 - Not the best thing I've read in kids' books lately, but good enough to hook some of the reluctant readers, especially boys.

Steve and Max are best friends, which is a good thing, because otherwise Max might have killed Steve by now. Who could get away with convincing you to eat a dog treat, if not your best friend? So when Steve comes to the clubhouse with a $2.50 time machine, Max isn't surprised. He doesn't take it seriously, but he's not surprised at all. After some explaining, he agrees to go with Steve to the year 1250... even if the contraption doesn't look like it's going to go anywhere. When Steve thinks Max is getting cold feet, he flips the switch before Max knows what's going on and they find themselves in the bodies of Sir Robert, a medieval knight, and his horse!

Stunned that it worked, thrilled with their success, the boys learn how things work in the Middle Ages. From quack doctors with potions to romance with an Earl's daughter, they're enjoying themselves quite a bit. Now all they have to do is hope the time machine brings them back before one of them is killed!

This is the kind of book that could easily translate into a series, with the boys traveling through time. Since the inventor of their machine, Professor Flybender, went off in search of Atlantis, never to return, there's a story to be told there - and if they tell it, I'll read it!

Must have book!

This book is the best Introduction to massage therapy I Have found so far. The title says it all really; Basic Clinical Massage Therapy Integrating Anatomy and Treatment. The book is extremely practical and demystifies massage using its very functional integrated approach. If you want to become really good at massage this might be the only book you may ever need. I am in massage school and the techniques covered in this book very plainly and easy to understand is beyond the scope of many of the soon to be graduating students. Even if your just a layperson who wants to get good at massage this is the book for you, It maybe somewhat technical but the format makes it very easy to understand and apply. This Is my favorite anatomy book for massage also because of the integration directly into application and very clear and easy to understand photos and illustrations. This book will give you an extremely solid base to use your own creativity or using other mediums to learn new techniques to work the same areas for example the use of forearms, elbows, massage tools, knees, feet. The book presents things in a basic easy to understand format but In reality they are covering many advanced techniques that work trigger points and traditional shiatsu points in a flowing method of application with out directly specifying the location of trigger points. The beauty is the simplicity of its presentation and only once moving on to more "advanced" learning materials such as trigger points will you realize how much you really learned from this book. My suggestion would be to get a foam roller, a ma roller, and one of those curved stick self massage tools along with the Trail guide to the body trigger point manual along with this book. The self massage tools can help you to understand how to propperly apply many of the techniques covered in the book.

This book is my favorite anatomy/palpation manual for massage and covers a variety of techniques for application as well. The construction of the book is high quality and built to last. Get this book You will not regret it. But you may regret the other massage books you purchased before this one.

A must have for clinical massage practitioners

After using the Trail guide and all its gadgets I thought I wound not need another anatomy book. This book should be on the schools list of required texts. It really helped me with the details. I am so excited because I can finally break the body down into segments-if I may call it that- and learn and practice the proper techniques required for each. I am also able now to create cheat charts indicatig attachments, origins and how they corelate with regards to appropriate treatment choices. This book gives me the confidence not only to work on my clients, but the ability to communicate with them confidently, honestly and Knowledgably. Thanks again to the LWW Massage Therapy & Bodywork Team.

Really descriptive book

Im not taking any massage therapy course, so I am reading this to try and learn some techniques on my own. This book is really descriptive and gives plenty of techniques, visuals, and informative bits. I have has some previous experience with anatomy and physiology, so I am familiar with most of the terms. That being said, this may not be the best book for an introduction to massage therapy. Also, if you are at all able to use this book while practicing massage on someone, I would highly recommend it because it almost gives step by step instructions and you would be able to retain the material much better that way.

About the Author
Paul Atkinson is Distinguished Research Professor of Sociology at Cardiff University, a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, and a Fellow of the Institute of Welsh Affairs. Recent books include Creating Conditions (with Katie Featherstone), Everyday Arias: An Operatic Ethnography, and Contours of Culture (with Sara Delamont and William Housley). He is currently conducting ethnographic work in art-makers’ studios. His most recent book is For Ethnography (SAGE, 2014). He and Sara Delamont were the founding editors of Qualitative Research, which they edited for 14 years. Together with Sara Delamont, Amanda Coffey, John Lofland and Lyn Lofland, he edited the Sage Handbook of Ethnography. He will be editor-in-chief, with Sara Delamont, Melissa Hardy and Malcolm Williams, of the SAGE Encyclopaedia of Research Methods.

Lihong V. Wang, PhD, is Gene K. Beare Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Director of the Optical Imaging Laboratory at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Wang is Chair of the International Biomedical Optics Society. His?Monte Carlo model of photon transport in biological tissues has been used worldwide. He has published more than 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and patents.

HSIN-I WU, PhD, is Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He has published more than fifty peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Wu was a senior Fulbright scholar and is listed in Outstanding Educators of America. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Biocomplexity and the Editorial Board of BioMedical Engineering OnLine.

The Most Practical Text in the Field

This is probably the most practical text in the field of Biomedical Optics I have ever seen. The first one with practice problems so that a student can test themselves on their knowledge. It is also more coherent and easier to follow than the several texts in this field where each chapter is written by a different author and leaps from topic to topic in a rather fragmentary manner. I'd highly recommend this to professors as a standard textbook for a class.

Practical, pedagogical with some room for improvement

A very pedagogical approach to optical instruments used in biomedical imaging is presented by the author in Biomedical Optics: Principles and Imaging. This text is widely considered to be the most practical text in the field.
I am looking forward to a second edition of the book, which is necessary in this rapidly evolving filed of optics. I would like to see learning outcomes at the beginning of each chapter, a review of the main concepts at the end and possibly a profile of a prominent researcher in each application. For instance: Prof. Wang in photoacoustic tomography, Prof. Yodh in Diffuse Optical Tomography, Prof. Boas in MonteCarlo, Prof. Fujimoto in Optical Coherence Tomography, etc.
A future deluxe edition with color illustrations wouldn't hurt either.

Good start, but needs more polish

Considering what came before, this text is revolutionary. Previously a 'text' on biomedical optics consisted of various papers or transactions bound together in one book. This is a volume that was started with teaching a class in mind and has plenty of good exercises for students. I say 'started' because as a text book it still has a long way to go. The writing style is very dry (a minor qualm) and overly concise - sometimes one wishes the authors expounded on the concepts with more examples or illustrations outside of the mathematics.
