About the Author
Joyce Gladwell was born in Jamaica, and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology and Anthropology from University College London in 1956. Brown Face, Big Master was first published in 1969, by Inter Varsity Press, London. Since 1969 Joyce has lived in Canada with her husband Graham, a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. They have three sons and two grandchildren. Joyce is a Marriage and Family Therapist.

Worth reading

I must admit that I was first drawn to read this book because Ms. Gladwell is the mother of one of my favorite authors - Malcolm Gladwell. However, after reading the first couple of pages, I was drawn to her story. You share her journey as she grows from a sheltered school girl in Jamaica to a determined University student in England and later a wife and mother. Ms. Gladwell is candid about her relationship with God and how that relationship matures as she matures. Ms. Gladwell gives you a glimpse inside her life and leaves you inspired.

This book was short and rich with ideas and observations. Following Joyce Gladwell, Malcolm Gladwell's mother, through her spiritual journey as well as her discoveries as a woman of color, a sister, a daughter, and a mother. Cataloguing her depression and speaking about her experiences so exactly while also maintaining an emotional piece this book really surprised me.

While there may not seem like anything life-changing about this book now the introduction gives a lot of good context for the world this book was written in. Gladwell also tells her own stories that give us a clear idea of her experiences and the life she was navigating. I was especially drawn in by how openly she talks about shame and fear.

This book is a wonderful read - both the subjects discussed and the way in which Gladwell writes is captivating.

The autobiograpy was interesting but the language used seemed a bit stilted. Perhaps this is because the writer was raised in the West Indies during the 1940's. Nonetheless, the book provides insight into the life a West Indian immigrant in the UK.

Went from knowing nothing about my CTS to being a CTS-God

Amazing guide. It will guide you step by step on how to change just about everything. It has everything you need to know from changing oil, to checking the automatic fluid, to changing a battery, to checking the brakes. An absolute must if you don't know anything about mechanics; like myself.

I was able to change the oil using this guide. Yes, I know... changing the oil is as simple as sleeping but I had no idea what to do and his guide provided all the information I needed; saved me a good $75 (yes I did pay that much when I took it to a local shop, and I don't think they used the right oil). With this guide I only spent $35 on the oil and the oil filter and I made dang sure I was using the proper oil and oil filter, not some cheap or recycled crap.

Yes you will have to buy tools, but those tools will become an investment and you won't have to pay hundreds of dollars just to get a simple thing fixed.

This guide is for the self-starters and self-reliant, this guide will teach you just about everything you need to know your CTS. I love my CTS and with this guide I can make sure I give my precious CTS some TLC.

If you are a veteran mechanic then you probably won't learn much, but if you have little to no knowledge about your CTS or cars then there's a plethora of useful information you can use.

Pros:
-It's a $20 investment that could save you THOUSANDS of dollars
-Instructions written in plain English
-Covers everything you need to know about your CTS, even has electrical wiring diagrams!

Cons:
-Some pictures are dark and kind of hard to see the details

Best Zentangle Art Book Ever

This is the best book for Tanglers' to add their own spin to art. The paper quality is excellent, the designs are fantastic and I just wish there were more of his books to chose from to add to my collection. I would definitely purchase this Zentangle book again.

About the Author
J. Steven Ott is a professor and dean emeritus at the University of Utah. He has written numerous books on organization theory, organizational behavior, nonprofit organizations, and organizational culture. His recent journal articles have appeared in the International Journal of Organization Theory and Behavior, Public Organization Review, Public Performance & Management Review, Public Administration Review, and Public Integrity. He teaches organizational behavior, organizational leadership and change, the nonprofit sector in society, nonprofit organization management, and organization theory. Ott worked as a management consultant to organizations in the nonprofit and public sectors for 26 years before joining the faculties at the universities of Maine and Utah. His Ph.D. is from the University of Colorado, his M.S. from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his B.A. form Pennsylvania State University.

Sandra J. Parkes is the Associate Dean of Continuing Education at the University of Utah, where she also teaches in the Public Administration Program. Her primary teaching and research interests are in the areas of organizational behavior and development, organizational leadership and change, motivation, human resource management, transfer of training, arts administration, and the practice of management. Her most recent publication was a chapter in the HANDBOOK OF PUBLIC MANAGEMENT PRACTICE AND REFORM. She has been a management consultant and trainer in business, nonprofit organizations, and government and works extensively with the municipal clerk and fire service professions. Her doctorate is from Arizona State University, and her Master's degree from the University of Wyoming.

Richard B. Simpson is the Associate Provost, Division of Continuing Education, Colorado State University. He has been an adjunct professor of public administration and the Executive MBA program at the David Eccles School of Business at the University Utah. He is now affiliated academically with the Industrial/Organizational Psychology Department at Colorado State University He teaches courses in organizational behavior, motivation and leadership, administrative practice, and organizational and industrial psychology, in the executive MBA and MPA programs. For many years, Simpson has been an active management consultant and trainer in industry, government, higher education, and health care organizations. His Ph.D. is in Industrial Organizational Psychology, M.S. in Economics, and B.S. in Biology.

Classic Readings in Organizational Behavior

Interesting collection of articles providing historical perspective on organizational behavior theories, however some articles seem to be rather severely edited. For example, comparing the version of Mary Parker Follett's "The Giving of Orders" found in Shafritz & Hyde's Classics of Public Administration with the version in this book, one can see where quite a bit of material was cut in this version - it might be called the Readers' Digest version of this article. I actually wound up using the version of the Follett article that is in the Shafritz and Hyde book instead of the version in this book for a citation in a paper I am writing for my org. behavior class, even though I purchased this expensive book as a text for the org. behavior class. Experience with the Follett article makes me wonder how much is missing from the other articles in Classic Readings in Organizational Behavior.

About the Author
Varun Soni is the Dean of Religious Life at the University of Southern California, where he is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Religion and a University Fellow at the Annenberg Center on Public Diplomacy. A prolific public speaker and scholar of religions, he holds degrees in religion from Tufts University, Harvard University, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Cape Town, as well as a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.
