Great book for all NICU RNs

This is a book full of realistic scenarios of the post-resuscitation, pre-transport time period of neonates in the NICU setting. The acronym makes it very easy to recall which steps are your priority at which point during the process of stabilizing and continuously reassessing the neonate. I went to the STABLE course as well, which I HIGHLY recommend for all NICU nurses. Very informative. I learned a LOT, and it's applicable to every shift. I bought the book to help reinforce all the information we learned in class.

About the Author
Born in 1974 in Nantes, France, Gerald grew up in nine different cities around the land of cheese. He graduated from the National School of Applied Art (also called Olivier de Serres) in 1998. Gerald's creativity blossomed at a web design company, an event studio, a video-games studio, and then several animations studios. Aside from illustration, Gerald has many other interests, including managing the French Comics Artists association "Rendez-Vous" (which published its first book at Akileos publishing in 2009), or co-leading with the Japanese Artist Daisuke Tsutsumi the artistic and charity project "Sketchtravel," a real sketchbook shared by 70 illustrators from all around the world. When Trisha Speed Shaskan was a girl, she wanted to become a superhero. Her mother gave her a Wonder Woman costume. Her dad crafted her a tiara and bracelets out of metal to match. Trisha imagined she could fight evil, fly an invisible airplane, and get anyone to tell the truth. While she didn't grow up to be Wonder Woman, she still uses her imagination to write stories and to teach creative writing. Trisha has taught creative writing to children and adults for thirteen years. She has published 26 books for children, and more are forthcoming. She has an MFA in creative writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. I purchased this book because my toddler loves any story starring Big Bad Wolf. I was looking for an alternative to the traditional fairy tale, one that swapped the antagonist/protagonist role or offered an alternate ending. This reimagining of a classic was creative, but the narrative is very dangerous. The insight into the wolf's mind reveals him to be even more predatory than previously thought. The story suggests that Red and Granny had it coming, because Red looked like a delicious apple and flaunted herself in front of the wolf. Both Red and Granny were quite self-obsessed with their looks and gazed into their mirrors completely ignorant of the grave danger behind them. I'll say it bluntly: This book perpetuates rape culture and victim-blaming. It suggests that the wolf couldn't help himself because of how his victim was dressed. It's highly inappropriate and irresponsible to introduce this book to children who aren't yet intellectually mature enough to have a conversation about the ethics of it.

I don't know, but people need to lighten up a little bit. My daughters and I thought it was a cute story. This is a vain little girl that was kind of annoying in a funny way. Even the wolf found her hilarious I would say. My daughters know the real story of the Red Riding Hood and we found this one with a different tweak to it. I just don't understand why some people would say that it would be scary for kids. I think parents are the one that transfer those negative feelings. Use those opportunities for learning experiences rather than negative ones. Be open minded to different things in life... believe me, you will find life easier. Life is too short, find humor in it.

good beginer/intermediate book

I bought this book for my boys 7 and 8 as a step up from a movie tunes book that was a little too easy. This book was the right dificulty level making them have to work a little harder for the finished product but not too hard for kids with only 1 year of piano lessons. I took a star away because in my opinion a sheet music book should be made in such a way that the book and pages can be comfortably opened all the way to allow for the book to sit on a music stand without damaging the book. This book has a thick spine and when you open the pages it "cracks the spine" which will eventually cause pages to come loose and fall out. Im probably asking too much for the price point but heck form/function accounts for something

Great for young Harry Potter fans

We saw a bigger, more advanced book of Harry Potter sheet music in our local music store. This was a nice start for my boys, 11 and 7. They found their favorite Harry Potter songs and jumped right in. It is still challenging for them, but not so much that it is off-putting.

This book was perfect for my daughter, but when it arrived it was in poor condition, as if it had been owned already: pages were bent and the spine was cracked in several spots. If I hadn't needed it as a gift so soon after it arrived, it would have gone straight back to be replaced.

At Last, an alternative to metaphysical cosmology!

I have been waiting for this book to be written for nearly 40 years. What philosophers and chatty mystics have been trying to model for thousands of years is now finally graspable in terms that readers can easily correlate to and corroborate with their activity as experiencers in the real world. Iain McGilchrist - part psychiatrist, brain scientist, philosopher - aptly points out how the two minds of the right-left brain can simultaneously respect and use properly those innate functions which enable a person to attend to the entirety of the experiential field while navigating its details. He offers data driven critiques of the overweening and corrosive emphasis that modern civilisation has been placing on the left-brain's ex post facto narratives while it short shrifts both the order and predominance of right-brain's initial apprehension of reality in the present moment. As a devoted practitioner of meditative practice, I have found it far easier to map the course of "The Way" on McGilchrist's neurophysiological terrain of consciousness, than upon the many archaic - albeit astoundingly useful - models of the old schools with all their magic dragons.

Excellent summary of divided brain research

This is basically a brief, summary version of the author's excellent longer book, The Master and His Emissary: The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World. The longer work is well-written, extremely interesting, goes into detail, and is definitely worth reading. But for those who want a shorter presentation of the results and implications of divided brain research -- how human beings have a left-brain and a right-brain, and how the difference (and sometimes conflict) between them accounts for many important aspects of our experience and culture, then this shorter work is very good. It covers all the main points of the longer work and is a genuine bargain. I would recommend this shorter work for all psychologists and philosophers, or anyone with a strong interest in either field. (And I would recommend the longer work also for people with a special interest in this important topic.)

Best short treatment of how left/right hemispheres make sense of the world by a psychiatrist-philosopher

Superb writing from a knowledgeable observer with years of clinical observations backing his conclusions. I've always had trouble with the some of the left-brain / right-brain distinctions, but McGilchrist makes a simplification that I can remember and believe in. He characterizes the left hemisphere as driven to come up with a consistent narrative about the world which brooks no ambiguity or uncertainty whereas the right hemisphere is fine with paradox, emotional shading and mystery. Profound insight into phenomenology with some implications for culture.
